Alexx Shorts: RoC TRU Doc (1/28/10)

Well, this is it: I've finally decided to start reposting my old "Alexx Shorts" G.I. Joe reviews.  They're the reviews that lead to what eventually became this blog!  I'll be posting them in straight copy-and-paste format, separating them with bold dotted lines so you know where they begin and end, and then I'll post some final thoughts on what I think of the figure currently.

For those unfamiliar: I used to take random pictures here and there, but by the time the Rise of Cobra toys came out, I was getting annoying with how much people had been bashing the figures which were clearly better than the previous 25th Anniversary offerings.  I set out to show people how awesome they were, and things went from there, forming into "Alexx Shorts", named so because I thought I was going to keep to a short format with a few pictures.  I did not do that.

Ah, an old favorite!

-------------------------------------------------------------

I went to Toys R Us today and took a short look around. They are still a shelled-out hull from Christmas, but they had at least put out thier exclusives! I thought this meant that there would be other new things...I was wrong. So what's a poor toy addict supposed to do?

Buy things he doesn't need, of course!

So, to go along with my two freakin' arctic guys (Snow Job and cold weather Snake Eyes) I now have Doc in blinding arctic gear! Trust me, no one will accidentally shoot this man, but every Cobra who wants to will be able to see him.

Strange thing is, I actually bought him because of the colors! I've never been a fan of cold weather guys, and all of the RoC ones have been a realistic white. This guy is fantasticly bright! On an all white background, like snow, he'll be burning the retinas of any Snow Serpents around!

Let's focus on the other stuff, though, and the reason I picked him up (beyond the colors):

Look at all that stuff! Granted, you add in Firefly's backpack and the accessory count rises pretty fast, but it's still a lot of stuff for a doctor. That backpack just has all kinds of uses! Regardless, I gotta question the plastic explosives...just sayin'.

So everything just about fits on him, save for the flare gun and the...medical thingy. I gotta assume that's a drug-administering-thingy. That's how i'm using it, and it's another reason I got the guy. Now I can press that into figure's necks and administer 5 cc's of...you know, drugs!

Anyway, I started taking pictures, but they all ended up coming together, so I restarted and just made a short comic. If it doesn't go over something that you've got a question about, just let me know!

I honestly didn't think I was gona like this guy as much as I did. I've got extra bodies around too, so I quickly made a dummy body without all the cold gear so I can have a normal Doc as well, and I was set! He comes with some great gear, a drug gun thing for anyone who needs medical gear, and he just looks cool! I actually have to suggest this guy. Much cooler than I thought he would be!

-------------------------------------------------------------

One of my favorite reviews, and yet I don't even know what I did with this!  Pretty sure I took the Doc head and built a body for him (either the one mentioned in the review, or a new one) and the cold-weather gear just...went somewhere.  Probably the parts bin.

That's not to say I didn't like him!  The cold-weather guys just don't get a lot of use from me.  They would have, back in the day, when snow wasn't a hindrance, but nowadays snow can go to hell and I maybe have the energy to take some cold weather pics once every three winters.  Because screw it.  Screw you, snow!

Seriously though: He's a good figure, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was a higher-priced one on ebay.  He looks awesome, comes with a ton of stuff, and even though I made fun of the repurposed sabotage gear: It's actually pretty damn clever!  The plastic explosives even work as a bundle of bandages and a stethoscope!  Someone should have gotten a pat on the back for that one. This was a great one for the money, and might even be worth it if he's a little overpriced (if you like cold-weather dudes).  Check 'em out!

...just look out for them Arctic Threats.

  1. Toys R Us had a good run for exclusive RoC era figures. I think Doc might be the weakest of them, still good though.

    1. Yeah, Doc was probably the weakest, though the accessories were great. Plus, I had no access to a Doc in any other way, so his head was super useful to make my own Doc, in a way (even if he looked nothing like the original).
